Chapter Twelve “I did like Mr. Dixon,” Elizabeth argued with her husband in the carriage midway between Longbourn and London. “I only said he was much different than I expected.”

“In what way?”

“I expected Mary to prefer a more solemn man, but he is quite jovial.”

Darcy reached for his wife’s hand, “She seems happy.”

Elizabeth's eyes twinkled, “I would say she is very much in love with him.”

Darcy smiled.

“Of course,” she continued. “He is very handsome.”

Darcy raised an eyebrow, “Should I be jealous, Mrs. Darcy?”

She leaned into him, “I never said he was more handsome than you, Will.”

“I imagine,” he spoke seriously, “that she sees in him more than just his good looks.”

“Oh,” Elizabeth rejoined, “I should think not. I know I never could have gotten over your taciturn manners had it not been for how attractive I found you.”

Mr. Darcy looked down at his wife, who was smiling archly, threw back his head and laughed.
